How it works

One scan a week. A plain answer for each area.

  1. Step 1

    Take a guided selfie

The camera checks distance, angle and light, then takes the photo for you. It lines up with last week's, so each scan is comparable.

  2. Step 2

Ten areas, each on its own

Acne, pores, redness and seven more are read separately. They are never added into one number.

  3. Step 3

    Better, Same or Worse

Every area is compared with your own baseline, not with anyone else. A change has to be real to count.

Illustrative screens, drawn from the app’s design. They are examples, not a real person’s results.

Honest by design

Same means same. Better has to be earned.

Skin changes a little from week to week on its own. Glowmeter learns your normal variation, and only calls an area Better or Worse when the change is bigger than that. Anything smaller shows as Same.

  • Better Bigger than your normal variation, and moving the right way
  • Same Within your normal week-to-week range
  • Worse Bigger than your normal variation, the other way

Until you have three weeks of scans, an area shows as building a baseline rather than guessing.

Week by week

Drag from week 1 to week 8.

Until you have three weeks of scans, every area shows as building a baseline. After that, each scan is read against it, so you see what moved and what stayed put.

Your history stays on your phone, and your last scans are there to line up the next one.

Illustrative example. Drag from week 1 to week 8.

The ten areas

Ten things worth knowing. Never one number.

Each area is read on its own and gets its own status. Glowmeter never averages them into a score, because one number hides the area that actually moved.

  • Acne

Visible blemishes and where they cluster.

  • Pores

How open and how noticeable they look.

  • Blackheads

Small dark dots, mostly around the nose.

  • Redness

How red the skin looks across your face.

  • Dark spots

Patches that look darker than the skin around them.

  • Texture

How smooth or rough the surface looks.

  • Hydration

How plump and moisturised the skin looks.

  • Oiliness

How much shine shows, and where.

  • Fine lines

Small lines around the eyes and forehead.

  • Dark circles

How dark the skin looks under the eyes.

Product tests

Eight weeks. One plain verdict.

Pick a product and the area you want it to help. Glowmeter compares your baseline before the test with weeks 7 and 8. At week 4 you get an early read, which never gives a verdict.

  • Better

    It worked.

Weeks 7 and 8 are clearly better than your baseline before the test.

  • Same

    No clear change.

The area moved less than your normal week-to-week variation.

  • Worse

    It got worse.

Weeks 7 and 8 are clearly worse than your baseline before the test.

  • Not enough data

    We can’t tell.

Fewer than five of the eight weeks were scanned, or another test on the same area overlapped.

Guided capture

The camera waits for a good photo, so you don’t have to.

  • Distance, angle and light are checked live, so a bad photo never counts.
  • When all three have been right for half a second, the shutter fires on its own. A manual shutter is always there.
  • A faint outline of last week’s photo helps you line up, so each scan is comparable.
  • A scan takes about 30 seconds, once a week.

What it doesn’t do

Four things Glowmeter will never do.

  • No skin score or skin age

Ten areas, each read on its own. Glowmeter never adds them into one number.

  • No beauty rating

It describes how your skin looks and how it changes. It never rates your face.

  • No product shop

There are no affiliate links and nothing for sale. Product tests are for what you already use.

  • Not medical advice

It tracks how skin looks over time. It is not a medical device, and it cannot tell you what to do about a health concern.

Privacy

Here is what happens to your photo.

The same four points you see before your first scan.

  • Your selfie goes to AILabTools

AILabTools analyses the face in your photo: light, sharpness, angle and, for members, your ten skin areas. It receives the selfie and nothing else about you: no name, no email, and no ID for you or your phone. Its published policy says uploaded photos are not stored and are not used for training.

  • Our server stores no photos

Your selfie passes through Glowmeter’s server on its way to AILabTools, so it can check your phone, your plan and your weekly limit. The server stores no photo, no score, no age and no written text.

  • Anthropic never receives a photo of your face

Later features send Anthropic numbers and short labels about your results, and photos of product labels you choose to take, to write summaries and tips and to read a label.

  • Kept on your phone

Your photos, your results and your quiz answers are kept on your phone to show your progress, until you delete the app or its data. There is no account and no sync.

Questions

Plain answers.

What does Glowmeter do?

It tracks how your skin changes week by week. You take a guided selfie, Glowmeter reads ten skin areas, and each one is marked Better, Same or Worse against your own baseline. You can also run an 8-week test on a product and get a plain verdict at the end.

Does it give me a skin score or a skin age?

No. Each of the ten areas stands on its own and they are never added together. Glowmeter does not give a skin score, a skin age or a beauty rating.

How often should I scan?

One scan a week is enough. Your plan includes up to two scans a week, and the count resets every Monday.

What counts as Better or Worse?

A change has to be bigger than your own normal week-to-week variation. Anything smaller shows as Same. Until you have three weeks of scans, an area shows as building a baseline.

How does an 8-week product test end?

Glowmeter compares your baseline before the test with the average of weeks 7 and 8. The verdict is one of four: it worked, no clear change, it got worse, or we can't tell. If fewer than five of the eight weeks were scanned, or another test on the same area overlapped, the verdict is that we can't tell.

Where does my selfie go?

Your selfie passes through Glowmeter's server to AILabTools, which analyses the face in the photo. Glowmeter's server stores no photo, no score, no age and no written text. Anthropic never receives a photo of your face. Your photos and results stay on your phone, and there is no account.

Does Glowmeter sell products or link to shops?

No. There are no affiliate links and no product shop. Product tests are for the products you already use.

Is it medical advice?

No. Glowmeter tracks how skin looks over time. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. If you are worried about your skin, speak to a doctor.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your history stays readable. Only new scans and the paid features are locked. You can cancel any time in your App Store account settings.
